Curry’s status is in question after multiple reports emerged that said the sophomore plans to transfer.
He played in six games last year and made nine tackles but was absent in the second half of the year for unknown reasons.
“Jessel is working through some personal issues at this time,” Chizik said. “He’s enrolled in school. He’s not going through spring practice. But if any status of any of our players changes, I’ll definitely let you know.”
Smith, who also signed in 2010 out of Cordova, Ala., was working at safety. He played in 14 games last year, mostly on special teams, and made three tackles.
“Conceptually the same thing,” Chizik said. “He’s working through some things. Again, if their status changes, I will let you know.”
UPDATE: Just messaged Curry on Facebook. He said Chizik is correct and will decide whether the linebacker gets back in good status with the team.
