Approximately 90 Auburn football players, including Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Cam Newton and defensive tackle Nick Fairley, will be honored by President Barack Obama at the White House today for winning the 2010 national championship.
A traveling party totaling 150 will make the trip, including head coach Gene Chizik and athletics director Jay Jacobs.
The team plans to arrive in Washington, D.C., around noon and will meet with President Obama at 3 p.m. before returning to Auburn in the evening.
Auburn was scheduled to visit the White House in late April, but the trip was postponed when President Obama made a visit to Alabama to tour tornado damage.
The Tigers beat Oregon 22-19 in January to claim their first national title since 1957.
