Report: Jessel Curry transferring to Delaware

Linebacker Jessel Curry has transferred to Delaware, he told Delaware Online today.

Curry, who enrolled in the winter of 2010 shortly after signing with the Tigers out of Buford, Ga., played in six games last year and made nine tackles as a true freshman, briefly holding the dime linebacker duties.

But he fell out of favor with the coaching staff late in the season. His status with the team came into question when he sat out spring drills and his name was rumored in several transfer scenarios.

Head coach Gene Chizik said in April that Curry was still enrolled in school but was “working through some personal issues.”

The 6-foot-1, 214-pound sophomore will be eligible to play immediately because Delaware is a Football Championship Subdivision school.

“I needed not just a location change. I needed an area change,” Curry told the outlet. “I needed a place that was a little more personal. Coming here and seeing everything, it all came into place.”

He added: “I believe I can surround myself with a lot of good guys.”
