Phillip Lolley steps down as cornerbacks coach

For the third time this offseason, an Auburn assistant coaching job has opened.

Phillip Lolley, who has served as the Tigers’ cornerbacks coach the past three seasons, is stepping away from his coaching position and returning to an administrative capacity within the football program.

“We appreciate Coach Lolley and the contributions he has made to the Auburn football program in his various roles over the years,” Chizik said. “We look forward to him continuing to help with the program’s success in his new capacity.”

Lolley, 57, served as Tommy Tuberville’s secondary coach from 2000-2003 before becoming Auburn’s director of NFL relations for five years. He was originally hired at Auburn as a strength and conditioning coach in 1999.

When Chizik was hired, he brought Lolley back into a coaching capacity as the cornerbacks coach.

A search for Lolley’s replacement will begin immediately.
