Faced with bringing back a team that has only one returning starter as a position player, Auburn was picked to finish last in the SEC West by the SEC’s baseball coaches.
Coming off of a 29-29, 14-16 season, the Tigers return only starting center fielder Creede Simpson, who is making the move to second base to get more athleticism and speed on the field.
Two-time defending national champion South Carolina was picked second behind Florida in the SEC East. The Gators were picked as the preseason No. 1 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll. Florida returns seven position players and nine pitchers from a team that claimed a share of the SEC Championship and lost to the Gamecocks in the College World Series final.
