Nell Fortner decided to resign at the end of this season, Auburn announced Tuesday afternoon.
Auburn has a pair of home games left against Alabama Thursday and Ole Miss Sunday.
“I love Auburn and have absolutely loved my time here during the course of the last eight years. I have dedicated the last 28 years to coaching basketball and feel it is time for me to pursue something different,” Fortner said.
In eight years at Auburn, Fortner posted a 143-105 record and a 51-65 record in SEC play. The high-water mark for Fortner’s tenure came in 2008-09, when Fortner led Auburn to a 30-4 mark and the SEC title. For her efforts, Fortner was named SEC Coach of the Year.
“We respect Nell’s desire to pursue other opportunities and appreciate everything that she’s done for Auburn,” Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs said. “Nell has been a tremendous ambassador for Auburn Athletics, the university and our community, always willing to be a team player.
Fortner also took the Lady Tigers to two NCAA Tournament appearances.
