Auburn releases 2012 spring roster

On the eve of Auburn’s first day of spring ball, the Tigers released the spring roster, with relatively few surprises.

Defensive end Joel Bonomolo is not listed on the roster, and C.J. Uzomah appears to have been moved to tight end full-time. Other than that, there was relatively little roster attrition.

In addition, Anthony Morgan is listed at wide receiver, and there are several walk-ons in camp, including a couple of different quarterbacks.

Per a suggestion from mabwriter in the comments — he gets an assist for the idea — the release of the spring roster is always a good time to take a look at who has made big gains during the offseason.

And after careful examination, the biggest gains were on the defensive line. For starters, LaDarius Owens definitely has the size to hold down the edge as a defensive end. Listed at 237 last year, Owens is up to 255 pounds. Owens isn’t the only defensive end who has bulked up. Redshirt Keymiya Harrell put on 35 pounds, raising his weight from 225 to 260 pounds on his 6-4 frame. Hybrid player Devaunte Sigler moved all the way up to 295 after weighing in at 263 last season.

On the offensive line, Christian Westerman’s up 18 pounds, from 280 to 298. Blake Burgess actually dropped 30 pounds, from 285 to 255, which suggests he may see more of a lead blocker/tight end role in the future.

At 6-2, Sammie Coates put 22 pounds on his frame to get up to 200, meaning that he’s no longer the thin receiver who showed up on campus. More than a few skill players put on a little weight, although nobody else got as big as Coates. Clint Moseley put on 10 pounds to get to 233, Brandon Fulse is up 12 to 250 and Jermaine Whitehead’s up 12 pounds after a solid first season in the nickel.

Outside linebacker Jawara White put on 15 pounds to raise his weight from 230 to 245 pounds, which may give him an advantage on the strong side in terms of taking on blocks.

  1. Hey Joel, I know you couldn’t do all of them, but could you perhaps give us the notable weight gains and losses?

  6. Ah, the mysterious chupacabra… The list came straight from Auburn. In any case, Holland has played two years for the Tigers.

  7. And WarEagleAU, I think you’re close. Won’t have a good idea for sure until the end of the spring.
