AUBURN, Ala. — Carl Lawson never wanted a three-ring circus surrounding his recruiting. And now that the five-star defensive end prospect has strengthened his pledge to Auburn, Lawson wants to keep it that way with just a few precious nights before National Signing Day.
Lawson, a Milton High School product from Alpharetta, Ga. who already was considered a ‘soft verbal’ commitment to Auburn, tweeted twice Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of his official visit to Auburn.
First, from @CarlCarltp (a protected account): “This will successfully end my recruitment I am an Auburn Tiger. No questions will be answered no calls will be accepted.”
And then, “Haven’t felt this light on my feet in a while. The weight of the world is off my shoulders #WDE”
Lawson can officially sign his national letter of intent Wednesday. Because he lives in the Eastern Time Zone, that can be as early as 7 a.m. ET, or 6 a.m. locally in Auburn.
ESPN’s press release last weekend indicated Lawson will make an official announcement live during its Wednesday ESPNU coverage, but it’s unclear whether Lawson, who later tweeted he’ll just have “a normal signing day”, will actually appear during a segment.
