Jay Jacobs on Moore, stepping down as Alabama AD: “Mal is a terrific leader and an even better man”

AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs joined the chorus of SEC athletic directors voicing their well wishes Wednesday to Mal Moore, who announced earlier he is stepping down after 14 years guiding Alabama athletics due to health reasons.

“I have always had tremendous admiration and respect for Mal Moore both professionally and personally,” Jacobs said in a statement. “He has served his alma mater exceptionally well for five decades as an athlete, coach and administrator. Mal is a terrific leader and an even better man, and I am fortunate to call him a friend. Mal has certainly been, and will continue to be, a true asset to the university that means so much to him.”

“I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers and look forward to seeing him again soon.”

Moore, 73, will become a special assistant to the president. He has been hospitalized since March 13 with pulmonary concerns.
