Chris Davis, Dee Ford and Jay Prosch headed to SEC Media Days

BY RYAN BLACK | rblack@ledger-enquirer.com

A trio of seniors will make up Auburn’s player contingent at SEC Media Days next week in Hoover, Ala. Coach Gus Malzahn broke the news himself on Tuesday via his personal Twitter account.

“Chris Davis, Dee Ford and Jay Prosch will join me at SEC Media Days next Wednesday,” Malzahn tweeted. “They will represent Auburn well.”

Chris Davis (11) will be one of three players representing Auburn at next week's SEC Media Days.

Ford, a defensive end who was named to the Bednarik Award watch list on Monday, led Auburn with six sacks last season. He continued to set the tone for the Tigers during the spring, as he was selected as the Most Valuable Player on defense during the team’s annual A-Day game. For his career, he has tallied 64 tackles (13 for loss) and 10 sacks.

Prosch enters his second and final season at Auburn after transferring from Illinois to be closer to his family, specifically his mother, Iris, who was diagnosed with cancer last year. While the 6-foot, 237-pound fullback has made his reputation as a blocker, he made the most of his limited touches in 2012, scoring a pair of rushing touchdowns on only nine carries.

Davis will feel at home in Hoover, as the Birmingham native was a star at Woodlawn High School. He has started 16 games over the past two seasons, but missed contests versus Texas A&M, New Mexico State and Georgia last year due to lingering effects from a concussion suffered during Auburn’s game against Arkansas. Davis saved his best for last, though, tallying a season-high seven tackles in Auburn’s finale against Alabama.

Auburn’s quartet —  Malzahn and his three seniors — is set to meet with assembled media members at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover next Wednesday afternoon.
