Tigers get commitment from Elite 11 QB Sean White for 2014 class

BY RYAN BLACK | rblack@ledger-enquirer.com

HOOVER, Ala. — Though Auburn is still a day away from making its appearance at the Wynfrey Hotel for Day 2 of the SEC Media Days, the Tigers made some news on Tuesday when they picked up therir first quarterback commit for the 2014 recruiting class. Like many others seem to do in these days of social media, Sean White announced the news himself on his personal Twitter account.

“”I have just committed to Auburn University! WAR EAGLE!!!!!” White tweeted.

White, who plays for University School in Hollywood, Fla., was an Elite 11 camp participant, winning MVP honors at the annual quarterback gathering. He passed for 3,348 yards and 40 touchdowns (against six interceptions) as a junior. He put up those stats playing at Chaminade-Madonna, a college preparatory school also located in Hollywood, last season. White, a pro-style quarterback considered a three-star prospect by most, is known for his accuracy after completing on 69.3 percent (183-for-264) of his attempts last year.

White became the 10th pledge of Auburn’s 2014 recruiting class. Class of 2015 quarterback prospect Tyler Queen of Kennesaw, Ga., gave his commitment to the Tigers last week.

  1. It would seem a good idea to mention he won the Elite 11 competition and was named MVP of the 7-on-7 competition.

  2. That’s a good point. Not sure why I left that out. Thanks. –RB

  3. Wonder if this forebodes an LSU commitment from Brandon Harris later this week. I’ve seen some amateur speculation that Auburn was waiting to offer White until after Harris made his decision. Yay! for Sean White in any case.

  4. So u think Brandon is gonna commit now?

  5. Ryan: One thing I’ve learned in life is to NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, try to figure out what a teenager might do. Especially when it’s a highly-touted recruit like Harris being pulled in a million directions. He’ll choose where he feels most comfortable. –RB

  6. Yeah no doubt about that. Hows sean’s running ability? Is it kinda like that of wallace or fraziee where they can if they hasveto or like a chris todd type?

  7. Sorry for typo errors

  8. Ryan: To answer your question, I’ll post White’s own views on his running ability. (For the sake of transparency and attribution, he said the following in an ESPN.com story.) “I’m also good at, not necessarily running, but just keeping plays alive and extending plays and looking downfield and making good throws on the run.”
